Abstract Geographies 2
A pair of animated illuminated panels commissioned for the new Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
Abstracted Geographies (+54¡ 56' 32.95", -7¡ 21' 43.54" and +54¡ 56' 32.95", -7¡ 21' 43.54") is a pair of gently illuminated artworks which form a representation of the area served by the hospital. The two panels feature adapted satellite images taken over the path of the river Foyle as it flows into the Lough. These images are suspended behind an array of lenses which alter the viewers perception of the maps depending on their position. These handmade clusters of rods hint at both the physical and human features of the area.
This proposal is the product of collaboration with an interactive audio artist and graphic designer, members of Sparks partnership.
